本作是以桐生一马的视角，描写《人中之龙6：生命诗篇》之后的空白时期的系列新作。
本作在战斗动作部分实现进化，并加入全新关卡，同时还保留了隐藏要素满载的娱乐场所。

■以桐生一马的视角描写，填补不为人知的空白
“传说中的黑道”桐生一马，为了保护心爱的家人，伪造了自己的死亡，并舍弃了一切。
然而嗅探到这个秘密的神秘黑影，正向他悄然逼近……
作为系列新作，本作填补了此前未曾提及的《人中之龙6：生命诗篇》之后的空白时期，以桐生一马的视角描写了《人中之龙7：光与暗的去向》的幕后故事。
■两种风格，焕然一新的战斗体验
玩家在战斗时，可切换“应龙”和“特工”这两种新的风格。
应龙：从本系列独特的爽快黑道战斗基础上进化而来的风格。
特工：在古今内外之搏击术的基础上加入绳索等专用特工道具，以速度制服对手的动作风格。
你会选择力量还是速度呢？灵活使用两种风格，击溃敌人吧！
■隐藏要素满载的娱乐场所
本作保留了众多“人中之龙”系列特色的娱乐场所。
除了强者如林的“斗技场”及真人电影般临场感拔群的“夜总会”，还有“卡拉OK”、“四驱车”、“飞镖”等人气游玩项目皆得到大幅强化。遵从自己的欲望，玩出新境界吧！
